The film tells the story of Deng Yuanhao, a student from the Experimental High School Attached to Beijing Normal University in China. In 2022, during his field work in the border mountains of Yunnan, the unique charm of the four-stringed Ding’s performance by the local aboriginal Blang people deeply captivated him.
Unfortunately, under the influence of today’s commercialization, the craft of making the Blang Ding is in danger of dying out. Few people inherited the Ding’s performance and singing. The enticing sound of the Ding can only be heard on rare occasions such as holiday rituals. In order to study the relationship between music and human development, unravel the mystery of traditional Blang luthiery, and record the inheritance of Blang people’s playing and singing, he went back and forth to the mountainous area on the border of Yunnan again.
He visited Ai Saizhan, the luthier for the Blang people, and Yuni, the inheritor of playing and singing. By this way, He witnessed the hardships of maintaining the heritage of ethnic minority culture.
As fingers pluck the strings, the sound flows and resonates, resembling ancient statues that have frozen the essence of time in history.Music is a part of human history,The Blang ethnic group plays the four-stringed Ding, using music to narrate their own stories.
