High in Yunnan’s Wa mountains, songs have long carried history from one generation to the next. When that oral tradition begins to fade, a group of high school students from Beijing and Nanjing travels to Yong’e Village to record folk melodies, learn from local elders, and help local children reconnect with the Wa language and their musical heritage.
