After being kidnapped in Caracas, Andres, a young Venezuelan guy moves to Phoenix, AZ. However, his immigration status and impulsive behavior will get him in more trouble.

Abroad” (USA), a powerful 16-minute drama short directed by Venezuelan filmmaker based in Los Angeles Enrique Suarez, is available now for streaming at Independent Shorts Awards TV channel. Awarded Gold Best First Time Director (Male) and Bronze Best Drama Short in December 2019.

“‘Abroad’ is a film about making wrong choices being in the wrong place at the wrong time. When we get totally desperate for something we need, like quality of life, we tend to make impulsive decisions without thinking about the consequences. This is a story about immigration told from the point of view of Andres, a young venezuelan musician who got kidnapped express in his hometown, so he made the impulsive decision of moving to Phoenix, AZ, illegally because his friend offered him a job as a waiter. This a common phenomenon nowadays because my country is in a catastrophic state that any Venezuelan, myself included, would do anything to get away from there”, states Enrique Suarez.

Abroad” was presented by our associate film festival Indie Short Fest last February at the Raleigh Studios Hollywood. The premiere, was followed by a Q&A with cast and crew.
