Anya is an ordinary teenager, and the news is everything around her. War, accidents, layoffs, a feed that never stops, running through her family, her school, the phone in every hand. Her family lives inside it too, each of them bent over a screen, and the noise works its way into everything. A news anchor with a television for a head begins to follow her, into her home, into her school, into the last quiet corners of her mind. He is the noise itself, and he does not stop at following her. He gets inside. Anya wants only to stay a bystander, to keep her distance and survive. She is not asked. The one who was watching the news becomes the news, and her mind stops being her own. Maybe none of ours ever were.
