Captain JAN (late 40s) and her daughter, BRITT (mid 20s), are working aboard their tugboat in New York Harbor when the unthinkable happens: two airliners slam into the Twin Towers, transforming the Manhattan skyline into a hellscape of fire and smoke.
Realizing the city is under attack, they race to Battery Park, knowing survivors will be stranded along the seawall. Their tug isn’t built for passengers, and it takes all of Jan and Britt’s skill to keep from capsizing as they load it with evacuees and begin transporting them across the Hudson.
The situation turns more desperate when the towers collapse, engulfing the waterfront—and their boat—in a choking cloud of ash and debris. In the chaos, Britt dives in to save someone who has fallen into the river, but is swept away by the current. Terrified for her daughter—who suffers from a kidney condition—Jan searches frantically through the murky water, ignoring the pleas of passengers urging her to push on to safety. A quiet but steady voice from one survivor, ERIC (20s), reminds Jan that Britt would want her to keep going… to keep helping.
At the helm of their small tug, Jan and Britt turn back toward Manhattan—rallying and leading a flotilla of vessels behind them. Together, they push toward the chaos, becoming the tip of a civilian armada that will carry over 500,000 people to safety in the largest maritime evacuation in history.
