Hail, Mary

Hail, Mary

In the dusty small town of Medicine Bow, Wyoming, fifteen-year-old Sadie Grant lives alone with devout mother, Linda. On the day of the Catholic Confirmation ceremony that Linda has organized, Sadie sneaks off to shoot guns with her friends, Eva and Della. As the girls shoot and drink beer, Sadie uncovers Eva and Della’s plan to run away from the town without her before the ceremony that evening. When Eva and Della express doubt whether Sadie can handle life as a runaway due to her attachment to Linda, Sadie makes a deal: she’ll destroy Linda’s Mary statue to prove her commitment to a new life.
Tensions escalate as the ceremony approaches. Sadie conceals her sympathies for her mother from Eva and Della while pulling away from Linda’s attempts to advise her. The confrontation comes to a head in the lot where Linda has set up the shrine to the Virgin Mary. When Linda attempts to stop Sadie from shooting the statue, Eva pulls a gun on her. Wielding Della’s shotgun, Sadie shoots the Mary statue to pieces, proving her allegiance to Eva and Della while protecting Linda from immediate harm. In the aftermath, Linda gives Sadie the keys to her truck and lets her leave town.
