The film portrays the spiritual dilemmas of Witkacy, Polish writer, poet and painter, sinking into madness and creative impotence, as well as his complex relationships with women. According to his philosophy, female characters in his works of art are depicted in a distorted reality filled with absurd images defying logic. At the same time, they introduce an erotic and metaphysical unease, a lyrical and dramatic tension and provoke the senses. The title character Bellatrix is the artist’s muse and source of inspiration. She simultaneously symbolizes a vision of an ultimate downfall of high culture and a triumph of consumerism.
