Mom Is Here

Mom Is Here

Ai-li Zhou tirelessly cares for her son Xiang-shang, who has Down syndrome. She takes him to speech therapy, confides in painter Mr. Yu about her struggles as a widow, and seeks help from sculptor Peter to open her son’s world through touch. Xiang-shang lives in a rich inner world, often dreaming of following his late father through a forest—though his memories are imperfect. When he becomes fascinated by a lecture on “human cooperation,” Ai-li weeps in silence, fearing for his future without her. One night, a UFO outside his window stirs him awake. He goes to his mother’s room and finds profound peace in her embrace. The film blends reality and surrealism to portray an extraordinary bond, exploring the essence of love and existence.

Directed by Zhigang Zhao (China)
