Independent Shorts Awards alumnus set to compete for the 97th Oscars in the Documentary Short Film category

**A Dream Called Khushi, Happiness** by Rishabh Raj Jain (India)

Independent Shorts Awards alumnus Rishabh Raj Jain, from New York University, and his documentary short A Dream Called Khushi, Happiness, has been shortlisted as one of the 15 winners of the 2024 Student Academy Awards competition, becoming eligible to compete for the 97th Oscars in the Documentary Short Film category.

The awards ceremony is set for October 14 at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London.

At Independent Shorts Awards, A Dream Called Khushi, Happiness was awarded Gold for Best Documentary Short in the monthly edition of July 2024 and it is now a contender for the 2025 Annual Awards.

The film follows the story of a Rohingya refugee in Bangladesh’s camps.

Rishabh Raj Jain is a recent graduate of New York University’s News and Documentary graduate program, where he was awarded the Arthur. L Carter Journalism Fellowship 2022-23. Jain previously worked as a video journalist at the Associated Press’ South Asia Desk based in his hometown New Delhi, India from 2015 to 2022.
