Daffodils

The story is based in the late 90’s in New Hampshire. Olivia, is a 23 year old orphan on a wheelchair who suffers from paralysis and weakened immune system. She feels at peace when she visits a church, hence, she wants to be in a peaceful mindset because she does not know which day might be her last day. Olivia is at the church stairs, when a church janitor ,Mike who always questions about his life and has disrupted relations with his family, sees her struggling and offers to help her. Her visits to the church become frequent and both of them start spending time together.
One day, Olivia invites Mike to meet her sister Lindsey over dinner. Lindsey makes him uncomfortable by asking questions about his family which makes Olivia furious. Mike and Olivia talk about life and Olivia’s will to live which inspires him. Olivia makes him realize how blessed he is to have a family with whom he ruined his relations and how she would do anything to bring her dead parents back. When Olivia reveals to Mike that her recent diagnosis report has shown that her condition has worsened and she has to undergo surgery , Mike is unable to process this information as he is scared of losing her. He pays his respect to her by bringing a bouquet of daffodils which were her favorite flowers and were always given to her by her mother as for her daffodils, symbolized new beginnings. This story shows how two people who are struggling in their own way find comfort and love in each other. But most importantly, it shows how grateful we should be with everything we have because we tend to realize the importance of something or someone only when it starts to slip away from our hands.
