The story happened in Chaoshan, China. Three years after their grandfather died, Zhehan’s mother wanted to make their grandmother live in England, fearing that her grandmother, who lived alone, would cause unnecessary trouble for them. But grandma refused to move, the reason was to learn a Chaoju opera here. Helpless mother let her son Zhe Han to their hometown Shantou, to try to complete the task.
Zhe Han spent his childhood with his grandparents in Chaoshan, and moved to England with his parents at the age of eight. There was still a grandmother who didn’t understand this task.
Grandma had a neighbor named Xiaolin. Xiaolin has been taking care of his grandmother since Zhehan’s grandfather passed away. Only Xiaolin knew the story of her grandmother’s refusal to move to Britain with her children.
The arrival of Zhehan is like breaking the natural balance of this small place and small world. As a grandson, he becomes an intruder instead.
