Dina is a forty year-old stage actor haunted by a past humiliation as she looks to jump-start her failing on-camera career with an exercise, ordered by her talent agent, that requires her to stand outside a Chicago coffeehouse and ask passersby for their first impressions of her. Enduring an experience that drags the calculus of social media into the real world, reducing her to the likes, comments, and indifference of strangers, Dina struggles to navigate the pathos of other people’s opinions and the blindness of white privilege, even as the collision of her past and present awakens Dina’s authorial voice.
