Jiang Haisheng, a junior college graduate shy of savings, decides to join his friend on a journey to Shenzhen to become a hairdressing apprentice. When attempting to ask for money from his old man as he delivers the latter’s medical report, Jiang accidentally runs into his father’s nightmare, and sees for the first time the Sea Monster that has been haunting his father’s sleep for decades. Realizing the life his father leads was never as smooth sailing as it seems, Jiang stays to help fix the family shop sign and dye his father’s hair back to black, which somehow cures his father of insomnia. Perhaps it is because the father has also accepted the fact that his son is already a grown-up destined to leave his side.
