Dream Chasers: The Fit to Recover Story

Dream Chasers: The Fit to Recover Story

In 2020 over 93,000 people died of drug overdoses in the U.S. The majority of U.S. adults have a close family member or friend who has struggled with addiction. And yet for how common this devastating problem has become, there is relatively little understanding around addiction. Harmful stigmas in the general public and in the healthcare and criminal justice systems often make things worse for people struggling with substance abuse. This 38 minute documentary, told through the lens of those in recovery, explores the root causes of addiction and delves into what a healthy recovery truly means and how it’s possible. This is the story of Fit to Recover, an addiction recovery community that uses fitness, nutrition, creative arts and community service to help people stay sober and reclaim their lives. At the core, this is the story of how human connection is the most powerful tool in overcoming addiction.
