The story is a reflection of the sharp real life of the fishermen in the char region of the river Meghna.
Most of the fishermen spent their entire lives by the river. To run the family, sun or storm, you have to go fishing in the river. Then money or fish is shared in different types of agreements with moneylenders. With the exception of the moneylender’s share of the fish they get from their tireless work all day, fishermen get very few fish to sell. Since the money from selling fish is very little, the fishermen buy food just to fill their stomach somehow. The dream of good food always remains a dream for them. They never get the taste of the fish caught in their nets, because fish is a luxury for them. And education! That’s beyond their dreams.
