Just Us

Just Us tells the story of Alex Byrne and Joseph Lavelle – two writers at a crucial watershed moment in their relationship.
They’re both successful writers but do not, on the night we meet them, have the same taste of success on their tongue.
Far from it, in fact.
Alex has had to endure a celebratory evening in the company of Joseph’s school friends who’ve gathered in a restaurant to toast to his latest success: recently winning the Best Original Screenplay Academy Award.
Just Us was born out of writer Renwick McAslan’s fascination with the universal themes that arise within the deeply personal moments that fill the space between two individuals who have run out of love.
Utilizing a near-continuous, tense back-and-forth, Just Us explores themes like the pursuit of success and love, the struggle for power and the dangers of lust.
The night, too is for sport – and this game is something of a 15 minute-long visual and sonic dance-like interaction between two people who were once lovers.
