At the beginning of 2020, gentrification was tearing through Toronto’s Kensington Market, a cultural hub and home to all walks of life. Livelihood cafe, a project designed to give refugees and newcomers a foothold in their new city through employment, fell victim to rising rent prices.

The documentary is an intimate and personal look at the story of the cafe, how it fit into the neighbourhood, and what Kensington Market means to the city of Toronto.

Directed by Zac Strevens (Canada)
