Posted by We are thrilled to unveil the shortlist of the 7th Annual Independent Shorts Awards—a selection of 70 films representing 18 countries, set to be screened in competition on September 6, 2025, at the iconic Regal LA Live, Los Angeles.
Chosen from 3,249 submissions received over a full 12-month cycle—from June 2024 to June 2025—these films represent the top 2.15% of the year’s entries, offering a powerful showcase of bold storytelling, diverse perspectives, and cinematic excellence.
Each of these works was selected based on its artistic quality, technical execution, and distinctive approach across genres, formats, and cultures. From powerful social dramas and innovative animation to genre-defying experimental films and deeply personal documentaries, the shortlist reflects the dynamic and evolving landscape of independent short filmmaking.

In addition to the competition selections, a non-competitive showcase is also being curated. A few additional finalists will join this section as part of the celebration of outstanding talent and diverse storytelling.
The full event features 11 screening blocks across 3 auditoriums, Q&A panel, red carpet photo call, cocktail reception, and awards show.
