In the Garden

In the Garden is was created to reveal an angle of the life of background actors in China. It’s the life pieces that Director Xueqing Yin recorded living and working with background actors for a week in XiangShan Film Studio, the second largest Film Studio in China, where produced over 1000 TV series since 2005. To most of the background actors, it’s where they start to dream.
Xueqing made another name for the Studio: The Garden.

Xueqing Yin decided to make a short film about those people are seen but not noticed. Background actors are a huge symbolic sign standing for those who live on the edge chasing their dreams in our society. Most people never understand why background actors are willing to work so far away from their hometown for years and get paid 20 dollar a day to be a moving “background” in a TV show. Through In the Garden, Xueqing never intend to answer but also to make her own questions.

In her lens, she met background actors transforming from tired people doing makeup in the middle of night to wandering villagers rushed into filming in the garden; she met shy background actors who introduced and performed happily and then wait at the filming spot like boring robot…..In the Garden is a film that cleaned up the dusty window and misunderstanding of the mysterious filming industry and present people with a closeup view to see those dreamers in the Garden.
