Join host Olivia Lyle (@olivialyle1) for an exclusive conversation with Veronica Tullo, writer and director of Did My Heart Love Till Now (USA). The film was nominated for Best Romantic Short at the 7th Annual Independent Shorts Awards at Regal LA Live, Los Angeles. Interview recorded by Kyle Reed (@thekylereed).

Did My Heart Love Till Now — A Potion of Fantasy and Romance
Tullo’s short film blends elements of cautionary tale, fantasy, and romance. The story follows a spinster witch who, hopelessly infatuated with a man already in a relationship, turns to magic in search of love. Her desperate choice leads her to concoct a potion that quickly spirals out of control, forcing her to confront the consequences of her yearning before it drives the object of her affection to madness.
A Witch’s Perspective
When asked about her connection to the world of witches, Tullo explained that it was more than just a narrative device. “I consider myself a Hellenistic polytheist witch,” she shared, adding that it was a part of her own life she wanted to bring to the screen. That personal connection informed the way she approached the story, bringing her own perspective into the film’s magical premise.
From Classroom to Festival Stage
Did My Heart Love Till Now was originally conceived and produced as Tullo’s Senior Thesis project during her studies at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film & Media Arts. The project not only marked a personal milestone but also became her gateway into the festival circuit, allowing her to share her voice as a filmmaker with wider audiences.

Celebrating Collaboration
For Tullo, the festival experience was not just about recognition but about sharing the moment with those who made the film possible. She attended the event with her actor and first assistant director, as well as her roommate and emotional support during production. “Just being there with them and being able to enjoy this experience has been pleasure enough,” she reflected.
Having screened at multiple festivals throughout the year, Did My Heart Love Till Now found its place among the nominees at the Independent Shorts Awards, adding a romantic and fantastical note to the lineup at Regal LA Live. Tullo expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to have audiences connect with the film, emphasizing that above all, “just the fact that people are watching the film and enjoying it” is the most rewarding outcome.
